ROME -- Tomatoes have long been hailed for their health-boosting properties but now it seems they may also help ward off the dreaded aging process. A group of Italian farmers have develop a "super tomato" they say is bursting with enough antioxidants to fight everything from aging to cardiovascular diseases. The secret lies in lycopene, scientists say, a life-giving red pigment that is found in abundance in the the new "Sun Black" tomatoes from the Rome-based Coldiretti farmers association.

What prompted Dr. Katz to focus on the 'Super 6' list is a patient he saw in clinic who had experienced a potentially life-threatening cancer a year or so ago, and is now living in the aftermath of a surgical "cure."
